In Senegal, a Cuomo Foundation-supported researcher helps an agroecological farm prepare for production
Coordinated by the Cuomo Foundation, Dr Siméon Diedhiou, an agricultural scientist, is providing technical expertise for the rehabilitation of a farm in Lompoul, north-western Senegal.

The Senegalese researcher, who held an IPCC scholarship from 2021 to 2023, visits the site regularly to support the team working there. In the current phase of his voluntary mission, he is helping the on-site team prepare the farm for production as the project reaches a new stage.

The second progress report, submitted by the founder of this agroecological initiative, Mr Amadou Makhouredia Diop, reports significant progress on the site. On schedule, the farm's irrigation network is now operational, allowing the first plantings to be planned. The land set aside for vegetables and fruit has been ploughed and prepared to detailed agroecological specifications. Restoration of the main building is also under way; it will provide living quarters, storage space and offices.

The coming months will be devoted to completing the renovation, planting fruit trees (lemon, mango, guava and papaya, already ordered) and establishing the first vegetable crops. Livestock will be introduced and staff trained in new techniques. Dr Diedhiou will provide scientific support throughout.
