At a time when ocean health is threatened by pollution and overfishing, supporting initiatives that educate youth on ocean conservation is essential for their futures. The Cuomo Foundation will sponsor the Monaco Oceanographic Institute's educational awards competition, "Oceano for All," starting in the 2025/2026 academic year and lasting three years. This partnership was formalized on May 28 at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
The competition is part of the larger "Oceano Youth" initiative, which engages younger generations in ocean conservation since its inception in 2014. It will focus on the Mediterranean region, aligning with the Institute's long-term strategy to promote the establishment and management of Marine Protected Areas globally. Classrooms from five Mediterranean countries will participate, aiming to help educators and students explore ocean issues, creating collective projects that align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 14.
Teachers and students will have access to specialized support, including virtual workshops on relevant marine topics. Registered classes will produce video reports showcasing their projects and their ecological and societal impacts. The most impactful projects will receive special awards.
Additionally, groups of children from Cuomo Foundation-funded educational programs in Italy and India will also participate. Multimedia classrooms in Rome and Kovalam, Tamil Nadu, are equipped to facilitate online sessions with dedicated support teams.
